PJ Sykes (Hoax Hunters, A New Dawn Fades, The Colloquial Orchestra, Angels vs. Aliens) is a freelance creative, photographer, videographer, musician and independent record label owner based out of Richmond, VA, but frequently works in Washington, DC and North Carolina. He brings fearless enthusiasm to projects he works on.
Best known musically as the front person for Hoax Hunters. The band put out a steady stream of releases with several different lineups between 2011 and 2018 and collaborated with guests like Grammy nominated singer Anousheh, Marty Key (Ted Leo Rx, Teargas Rock), Catriona Sturton, Dave Watkins, and Jandek. Previously his more experimental outfit, A New Dawn Fades, played shows with bands like St. Vincent, Q And Not U, Des Ark, and Saxon Shore before splintering off to evolve under the name The Late Virginia Summers.
As a photographer he has worked closely with the likes of Merge Records, Thrill Jockey, Dischord, SubPop, Superchunk, Lambchop, Bob Mould, Foo Fighters, and Beauty Pill to create photographs that have appeared in publications such as Rolling Stone, SPIN, TIME, Pitchfork, Paste, Tiny Mix Tapes, The Washington Post, Aquarium Drunkard, and Magnet.
